DSBs + Liquor + Megaphone + Fire = Afterburn

I never really realized how far away Florida is from NC until this weekend. Somehow the time passed quickly for the DSB caravan. Maybe it was the fact that none of us got much sleep Thursday night, or maybe it was the jokes, the Interstate Megaphone Usage(At the gas station: "Attention burners, get back in the cars, we're leaving"), Bubba John Fuckin' with everyone we met along the way, the truckers, everyone at the Burger King(Are we in Arizona yet? No we're in Georgia. How'd we get to Georgia? We were going to Arizona! It's on the way. No it isn't, its the other way!) and general fun with the clean-living DSBs(Ahem!) Then we got there, and everyone from Florida was so wonderful. The Burns were spectacular, aside from the faceplanting burners that is. Apparently, running around a fire can be hazardous to your health. In fact both Friday and Saturday night, we had burners paying more attention to the _BIG FUCKING FIRE_ than where their feet were going. But only minor injuries resulted. (We had warned them: "Warning: We are required to treat you as though you would sue us over accidents or injuries resulting from your own stupidity!") The Ohio Burn Unit came down from Cleveland and brought the Burner TV, an interactive fire installation that allows the viewer to change the pattern of the fire. As usual, I can't even go into everything that happened, but once again, if you were there, you saw it. If you weren't, you missed out big time. And even letting Chwdog near a megaphone served the greater goals of the community for a change. But letting him near bacon didn't. (Don't throw the bacon!) Anyhoo . . . we'll do it again sometime soon. --The FNP
Just Call me a Kitchen Bruja!!!

I spent most of yesterday cooking my Baklava, and Bakn'lava (yes, bacon+lava)! I transferred it to a one large foil pan this morn. and well... I kept having to clean the spatula off and after a small pile of honey debris, I had a taste and felt high as a kite, since I don't do sugar much! Whew what a ride!
Car Pool

We recently lost a driver and we have one person who is unable to find a ride. If anyone has room and is willing please let me know. My name is Ryan and number is 404-401-5138. Our caravan is leaving at 2am friday morning to arrive at about 9:00am in FL.
Final food thoughts

Thanks to those of you that are going to help clean up. Let this be a warning to the rest of you that I have no qualms about delegating dish duty. And enforcing it with the riding crop!! MuwahaHAHAHA! As for a final count, I'd suggest planning for 15-20 people.
Have you signed up to help yet ??

just wanted to find out where we stand in meals and clean up . I and others are doing meals and allso In the ASS for shifts , and need to know after we cook the meal is any one goin to sign up to clean up ?? . I would and others would feel better if we knew things would be cleaned up when we did our shifts , There are certian people that contribute over and beyond what they should , lets give them a break ! . So meals are listed can we do a clean up list as well and get this covered ASAP before we get there , Thanks, BuBba JoHn
So far we have...

First of all, thanks to everybody that's pitching in and stepping up. Our menu line up is as follows:
- Friday Din: I'll do my chilli and hopefully some cornbread.
- Saturday Breakfast: Siryn and Unga volunteered something, but I'm not sure what. (I just went down the list, if you guys would perfer to do it Sunday, that's fine, just let us know.)
- Saturday Din: Siryn and Unga, same deal.
- Sunday Breakfast: ***OPEN***
- Sunday Din: BubbaJohn with grilled chicken, mac & cheese, and room for other contributions.
- Monday Morning will probably be a little bit of recovery, hugs, and good-byes. :-(
SOOOOooo, if somebody will/ can sign up for Sunday (and maybe Monday?) breakfast, that would be great. I'll bring some extra breakfast items like bacon, eggs, and maybe some oatmeal or grits to contribute to other peoples breakfast, plus a few other surprises. ALSO, maybe contact me off list to let me know who/ how many will be joining, and I'll get in touch with the other cookers to let them know. (So we don't much up the website with all that.) If you can't contribute a meal, then clean-up help is always ALWAYS welcome.
Food for AfterBurn!!

Yes, that's right. It's 2 weeks away, and nobody seems interested in starting this thread beyond "Hey, what do you think about doing this?" (Thanks for the jumping off point Phyerbolt.) It would be most helpful to sign up for a meal, let everybody know what you plan on contributing, and if you need something else to prepare it or go along with it.
I've recovered sufficiently, now please help me do it again!

I've finally recovered a bit from my last couple of events, and now I need to arrange to get from Greensboro, NC to Afterburn. If I cannot arrange my invasion of the PENISula state, I cannot get tix. Advantages: I can help pay for gas, I drive stick, and I can tell entertaining stories for hours on end. I can take up very little room (if I leave my fire toys at home) and don't need to camp with whoever gives me a ride. I also have a very flexible work schedule that allows me to leave whenever a ride is available(Thursday - Friday until Sunday - Monday). I don't spontaneously combust (yet!) (Possible) Disadvantages: I (may) need a round trip ride. I don't have a santa suit(but I do have a kilt).
Sleep? Fuck that! We're Burning shit here!

So tired, So incredibly tired. I have just had a wonderful double weekend. Alchemy back-to-back with FreeFall. I'm glad I get an entire month to prepare for AfterBurn. If anyone will be going through Greensboro NC on their way to Afterburn and may have a ride available, contact me. I tried to make it to Afterburn in '06, but failed miserably. And boy was I miserable that weekend.
Afterburn Here I Come!!!

Yep, bought my ticket last night. I'm so hyped up with anticipation I can't stand it!
Being originally from that area born and raised, there's definitely going to be some emotions attached to 'Coming Home'. I get very emotional just thinking about it. I yearn to get back there, and with it being a burn, WooHoo, I am so THERE!!!
AfterBurn 2006

I got this video from the Florida list. It brings back such great memories, esp. at the end with me and Aja, that bike was so much goddamn fun!
